Since listing on the Australian Securities Exchange in April 1987, Sonic Healthcare has grown from a single pathology practice to a global medical diagnostics company that is known around the world for its commitment to quality medicine and patient care.
Sonic’s first pathology practice was Douglass Laboratories, located in Sydney’s northern suburbs. By the early 2000s, we had grown to become the market leader in Australian pathology/laboratory medicine, with laboratories and collection centres across the country. We also diversified into radiology and clinical services, becoming market leaders in these segments as well. These accomplishments were driven by a combination of strong organic growth and the acquisition of quality practices that shared our commitment to medical sovereignty - two factors that continue to propel our ongoing growth to this day.
Over the last decade Sonic has successfully replicated this business model internationally, establishing a network of laboratory medicine/pathology operations in the USA, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Ireland and New Zealand.
